This episode was inspired by a question Tina was asked during a consultation with a parent who had a history of trauma: “Am I too broken to go near my adult child?”
The short answer, in case you don’t have time to listen to this episode, is no.
You may have trauma from the past that’s affecting your ability to make needed repairs in your relationship. But that doesn’t mean you don’t deserve closeness and belonging.
The timing of reaching out is important. In this episode (use the player below to listen), Tina offers several good reasons to hold off on reaching out when your adult child becomes estranged, until you’ve attended to your own need for healing.
If you had a difficult childhood and think you may have some trauma; don’t do anything until you listen to this episode.
For many more practical tips on how to repair an estranged relationship with your adult child(ren) and yourself, see Tina’s book, Reconnecting With Your Estranged Adult Child.
