Episode 16: Sharing Important News with Your Estranged Adult Child

One of the most common questions we get inside the Reconnection Club is whether and when to initiate contact with an estranged adult child about important news.

At some point, if you’re estranged long enough, something will come up that will make you wonder, “Is it okay to contact my child about this?”

It might be news about a friend or relative. It might be an upcoming event that the whole family will attend — will your child be hurt or angry if you don’t at least extend an invitation?

As with many aspects of estrangement, it can be extremely difficult for parents to know the “right” thing to do.

This episode looks at two types of events – happy/scheduled and unhappy/sudden — and provides practical rules of thumb you can apply to figure out whether and how to communicate with your child.
