TIME-SENSITIVE: Estranged Fathers Needed for Research

Fathers and estrangementAs you may know, there’s very little existing research that specifically examines estrangement from fathers.

Fortunately, doctoral candidate Janet Shaffer intends to address that deficit with her dissertation, Divorce: A Phenomenological Study On Estrangement In Fathers In Older Adulthood.

Shaffer is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Community Care and Counseling at Liberty University. The purpose of her study is to explore the life experience of fathers 65 and older who are experiencing, or have experienced, estrangement from one or more of their adult children.

Participants in the study will be asked to take part in a one-on-one, in-person or Zoom interview  of 60 to 90 minutes.

Participation will be confidential. Names and other identifying information will be requested as part of the study, but participant identities will not be disclosed.

A consent document will be emailed to participants if they meet the study criteria one week before the interview.

If you know of anyone who would be interested, or to learn more about Janet Shaffer, please contact her directly at 321-412-2807 or send an email to jshaffer10 (at) liberty.edu (substitute the “@” symbol for “(at)”.)

Please contact Janet as soon as possible, but no later than the end of August 2024.

Even if you don’t meet the age requirement, it might be worth connecting with Janet in case she decides to expand the study.
